Foundation Stage

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Program at Bedford Kindergarten

Introduction

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) program, a crucial part of the British Curriculum designed for children’s Early Years. This program lays the foundation for future learning by fostering development in a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment. Our aim is to ensure every child reaches their full potential through a balance of structured learning and play-based activities.

Our Philosophy

We at Bedford Kindergarten believe that every child is unique and capable of achieving great things. Our approach is child-centered, focusing on the development of the whole child. We prioritize creating an inclusive environment that respects and values diversity, ensuring all children feel welcomed and supported.

Curriculum Goals

The EYFS framework is built around four guiding principles:

  • A Unique Child: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent through loving and secure relationships with parents and teachers.
  • Enabling Environments: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Development: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Areas of Learning and Development

The EYFS framework covers seven areas of learning and development, divided into Prime and Specific areas:

Prime Areas:

  • Communication and Language: Developing confidence and skills in expressing themselves and understanding others.
  • Physical Development: Enhancing coordination, control, and movement, promoting health and self-care.
  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: Helping children develop a positive sense of themselves and others, forming positive relationships and respect for others.

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy: Encouraging children to link sounds and letters and begin to read and write.
  • Mathematics: Providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding, and using numbers.
  • Understanding the World: Guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community.
  • Expressive Arts and Design: Enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials.

Parental Involvement

We recognize the vital role parents and caregivers play in their child's education. We encourage active parental involvement and provide various opportunities for parents to engage with their child's learning journey through workshops, classroom activities, and regular communication.

Welcome to a year of growth, discovery, and joy in the Early Years Foundation Stage! We look forward to working with you and your child in this exciting stage of their development.
